EMIRATES NBD SIGNS PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT WITH HAWKAMAH INSTITUTE FOR CORPORATE GOVERNANCE

Dubai - MENA Herald: Emirates NBD, one of the leading banks in the region, has signed a partnership agreement with Hawkamah Institute for Corporate Governance to promote best practices of Corporate Governance in the UAE. The agreement reflects Emirates NBD’s commitment to furthering Corporate Governance, not only at the bank level, but also at the national level.
According to the agreement, Emirates NBD will train selected senior staff on the latest developments in Corporate Governance. In addition, the bank will sponsor Hawkamah’s 10th annual conference, focusing this year on Corporate Culture, to be held on Nov 8th, 2016. A senior female representative of the bank’s management will attend Hawkamah’s Women Directors Program with the aim of ultimately boosting women’s representation on MENA Boards.
Ms. Lubna Qassim, ‏Executive Vice President, Group General Counsel and Company Secretary, Emirates NBD, commented on the partnership agreement, "Emirates NBD was one of the very first Emirati companies to have implemented Corporate Governance principles. We have partnered with Hawkamah to disseminate good Corporate Governance knowledge among companies and individuals across the UAE. Through this partnership, Emirates NBD wishes to send an important message to other banks and companies that it is not enough to abide by Corporate Governance rules, but we must encourage others to abide too. We also support Hawkamah’s new initiatives, particularly the Women Directors Program which shall improve women’s representation on boards in this region.”
