Amman - MENA Herald:

IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants), the global association of accountants and financial professionals in business, has witnessed a surge in applications in its CMA (Certified Management Accountant) program among students across esteemed institutions in Jordan. By awarding 126 scholarships in the program to 13 universities to date, IMA has seen an increase of institutions participating the last two years in comparison to the previous years.

The accounting profession remains popular among Jordanian students in higher education. As the only organization to offer the CMA, IMA presents the opportunity to 10 students per university interested in pursuing the certification. This year, the following universities have applied and were granted CMA scholarships in Jordan:

  • Al-Ahliyya Amman University
  • Al-Albayt University
  • Al-Hussein Bin Talal University
  • Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan
  • Applied Science Private University
  • Arab Open University
  • German Jordanian University
  • Hashemite University
  • Jadara University
  • Mutah University
  • Philadelphia University Jordan
  • University of Jordan
  • Yarmouk University

“Accountants and financial professionals need additional skill sets to evolve from ‘counters of wealth’ to ‘creators of wealth’ in order to take strategic decisions in leading organizations. We believe our scholarships will help bridge the gap of accountancy skills needed by young professionals pursuing accounting and finance careers in Jordan and the GCC,” said Rishi Malhotra, IMA Middle East/India academic and community relations manager.

“IMA’s CMA program helps develop young professionals with strategic insights, value creation, and decision-making skills which are critical skills to have during the digital revolution when traditional, routine accounting jobs are being automated. Many of our certified CMAs have gone on to become finance leaders and CFOs in esteemed organizations across the world,” he added.

Recipients of the CMA Scholarships receive a comprehensive package of benefits amounting to a total value of US$927 enabling them to take the CMA exam free of cost. The benefits include IMA membership for up to three years, the entrance fee and program fees for the CMA program, and an exam support package. In order to apply for the scholarship, undergraduate and graduate level students are encouraged to approach their institution’s finance and accounting faculty heads. Faculty members are also encouraged to work together on the nomination process to submit a maximum of 10 students, per academic year.
