German State Ministry of Economic Affairs Commends UAE’s Digital Transformation on Visit to SAP MENA in Dubai

The State Secretary of Baden-Württemberg, Germany’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, Katrin Schütz, has commended the UAE’s leading role in digital transformation and innovation on a visit to German-headquartered global technology company SAP’s Middle East and North Africa headquarters in Dubai.

One of more than 900 Germany-headquartered companies in the UAE, SAP supports bilateral trade between the two countries reaching €15.4 billion, according to the German Federal Foreign Office.

Senior officials from the German government delegation and SAP emphasized that the UAE and Germany share a culture of government-led digital transformation and innovation. This visit underlined SAP’s commitment to exchanging global best practices in digital transformation to enable the UAE’s economic growth, especially across rapidly-digitizing industry verticals such as aviation, oil and gas, retail, and utilities.

In the presence of Katrin Schütz, one of SAP’s most innovative customers in the region, Majid Al Futtaim’s flagship retail brand Carrefour, received SAP’s award “International Omni-Channel Transformation of the Year - South EMEA.” Hani Weiss, CEO - Majid Al Futtaim Retail received the award, joined by SAP’s global strategic partner Accenture, for rolling out an SAP-based integrated e-commerce platform for customers in 15 countries.

SAP is implementing a 5-year USD 200 million UAE investment plan, and is the first business applications provider to go live and onboard customers on its UAE public cloud data center SAP is also the Expo 2020 Dubai Innovative Enterprise Software Partner to personalize experiences for a projected 25 million visits.

Supporting the workforce of the future, SAP’s Training and Development Institute has upskilled the next generation of talent. Since 2013, more than 2,330 previously un- or underemployed participants have graduated as SAP Certified Associate Consultants through the Young Professional and Dual Study Programs in the Middle East North Africa region and have found a job in SAP’s eco-system. The Winnovate initiative has also fostered impactful innovation through facilitating coaching and workshops at organizations for over 400 winnovators.
