Abu Dhabi Ports announced today the winners of NEESHAN Awards 2019. This is an annual Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) awards scheme that recognises contributions to raising awareness and promoting knowledge sharing of HSE best practices across Abu Dhabi Ports, its subsidiaries, and customers.
The award is one in a series of initiatives to enhance Abu Dhabi Ports’ significant role in promoting sustainable development across the Emirate, in line with objectives of the UAE Vision 2021, Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The organisation has implemented a number of dedicated programmes and initiatives, including the annual Health, Safety & Environment Week, the Ibtikar innovation scheme, and the Port Innovation Lab.
Building on the success of last year’s inaugural edition, NEESHAN attracted many individual and company entries for its three main categories and 17 subcategories, which comprises of eight ‘Business Subsidiaries’, five ‘Customer’ and four ‘Individual’ HSE awards.
Captain Maktoum Al Houqani, Chief Corporate Authority Officer of Abu Dhabi Ports, said: “Maintaining a sustainable HSE culture across our subsidiaries and in the community is a priority for us at Abu Dhabi Ports, and NEESHAN plays a key role in upholding this culture of excellence by involving all stakeholders, I’m confident that NEESHAN, now in its second year, will continue to drive the HSE discourse in Abu Dhabi in the right direction.

A specialised committee evaluated HSE contributions against a set of indicators and standards to measure and monitor performance development across key business areas.

Abu Dhabi Ports also honoured its strategic partners for their continuous support and contribution to Abu Dhabi’s flourishing HSE culture. Those recognised include the General Secretariat of the Executive Council, the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, the Department of Transport, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority, the Critical National Infrastructure Authority, and the National Search and Rescue Center.
The contributions of the Abu Dhabi Police, Abu Dhabi Civil Defence, Tadweer, the Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities, the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi, SEHA – Abu Dhabi Health Services, the Department of Education and Knowledge, ADNOC, Emirates Global Aluminium and the National Marine Dredging Company, were also celebrated.
Abu Dhabi Ports’ sustainable development efforts have received global recognition. Earlier this year, Abu Dhabi Ports’ HSE culture building program was nominated and shortlisted at the prestigious IAPH World Ports Sustainability Awards in the ‘Safety and Security’ category. In June 2019, Abu Dhabi Ports received the Platinum Standard from Investors in People, an international standard for people management.
