Tuesday 26 July 2016

Sharjah - MENA Herald: Sharjah Girl Guides (SGG) concluded the summer camp that was held under the slogan ‘Summer of Accomplishments’ with more than 70 Brownies and Guides taking part at the event.

Featuring a series of art and training workshops, the programme aimed to instil positivity within the participating Brownies and guides, develop their personal and professional life skills, in addition to enabling them to play active roles in the community in the future.

The program saw a huge turnout of Brownies and Guides, who expressed their admiration of the exciting and useful events in which they took part, including training activities on self-defence, and other literary events which sought to hone their theatrical skills. They also praised the art workshops tailored with the aim of developing their artistic and creative skills, including teaching them basics of pottery, handicrafts, and drawing. These activities were designed to instil positive behavioural traits, as well as social and moral values in the participating girls, contributing to the development of their personalities and qualifying them to serve their communities in a better way.

Aligning with the overall orientation in Sharjah to support entrepreneurship, SGG organised an entrepreneurship workshop, sponsored by Sharjah Entrepreneurship Center ‘Sheraa’, which operates under the umbrella of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), and aims to develop the entrepreneurship environment in the Emirate of Sharjah. The participating girls took part in an array of interactive activities which helped them to learn about how to start their business projects. They were provided with the practical methods which will help them prepare business plans and become professional and productive.

The Guiding movement was established in Sharjah in 1973 after which it spread to all seven emirates, giving rise to the Girl Guides Association of the United Arab Emirates in 1979. Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, SGG aims to inspire and nurture future generations to become progressive global citizens by providing a platform for girls to develop to their fullest potential.
