Dubai - MENA Herald:

Dr. Mansoor Al Awar, Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University’s (HBMSU) Chancellor, recently attended the first meeting of the newly elected officials of the Learner Council. The meeting was headed by the new council’s new president, Maryam Al Zarooni, a learner of HBMSU’s Bachelor’s Program in Business and Human Resource Management. The meeting, which took place at the HBMSU campus, focused on the council’s objectives to enhance and promote harmony and understanding as well as establish communication channels and cooperation among learners, faculty members, and business stakeholders.

Dr. Al Awar gave his recommendations on effective implementation of the council’s plan, which complements the university’s goals to graduate entrepreneurs rather than job seekers and sustain its leadership in bringing about a radical and positive change in society by re-engineering higher education and empowering a new generation of learners. These goals are aligned with the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and HBMSU President. Dr. Al Awar pointed out that the Learner Council reflects HBMSU’s commitment towards empowering young learners, which is one of the strategic priorities of HBMSU aimed at supporting the national efforts to create an educational system that discovers and develops the talents of individuals in line with the 50-Year Charter development plan.

Al Awar concluded: “We place our confidence in the new council's ability to support our learners across various fields such as leadership, research, and development.  We will continue to invest in our young talents in line with the wise vision of our leaders to build a prosperous UAE led by our youth.”

The Learner Council held an election in May 2019. The responsibilities of the council’s President include strengthening communication bridges; representing the community of learners; communicating proposals and complaints to relevant departments; developing an action plan; and preparing a progress report. The Vice President is responsible for coordinating with the President; convening council meetings; preparing agendas and minutes of the meetings and working with the President in progress report and action plan development.
