DSG conducts information security talks called ‘Be Smarter than your smart device’ for Dubai’s public

Dubai Smart Government (DSG) conducted a number of talks on information security titled ‘Be smarter than your smart device’ at Mirdif City Centre. The talks were part of DSG's participation in the UAE Innovation Week between November 22 and 28 in response to the call of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai for innovation and best practices.

The talks included many aspects of information security and how to take adequate protection on smart devices, on social media and the risks that children might face online. It included the hidden dangers of apps, how to understand security settings and ways to protect privacy and identity theft online.

H.E. Ahmad Bin Humaidan, DSG Director General, said: "Based on our commitment to enrich knowledge and human capital with high-level expertise, we have organized these awareness lectures to consolidate the information security culture among the public with the aim of providing a secure and reliable environment to preserve the information of individuals and the privacy of the transactions they complete electronically or via their smart devices. In this way, we contribute to the leading steps taken by Dubai to move towards a smart city and knowledge-based economy."

Bin Humaidan added: "DSG strategy 2014-2017 stresses the necessity of applying the highest information security standards to all our services to ensure the provision of highly reliable smart services that bring happiness to customers and meet their satisfaction. Our dedicated teams keep developing and updating these services in line with the practices and standards of protecting, managing and documenting data to provide services to customers in the best possible way.”

Earlier, DSG won the top information security award in the category of “Best Information Security Program Implementation” in the field of Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) for online and Smartphone payment services (ePay and mPay). The award was given by the Gulf Information Security Expo and Conference (GISEC 2015).

DSG is participating in the UAE Innovation Week with an innovative bouquet of smart services and innovative activities through its stand at Mirdif City Centre, which was held especially for the purpose of promoting innovation and creativity, disseminating knowledge, engaging the public in building government services and exchanging innovative ideas.
