Dubai - MENA Herald: Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) has introduced its RFID-based technology to fuel DP World’s fleet of vehicles. The new system will also help DP World in monitoring diesel fuel consumption, which not only increases operational efficiency but also manages scheduled vehicle maintenance.

The RFID based technology installed by ENOC completely replaces the fuel management system previously set up for DP World at their Jebel Ali facility. The newly introduced system will reduce fuelling time for DP World’s fleet and enhance the efficiency of transporting fuel and oil products from DP World’s container terminals to cities around the region. This is the first time in the UAE that RFID technologies are used for a commercial industrial fleet – such as DP World’s.

His Excellency Saif Humaid Al Falasi, Group CEO of ENOC, said: “Innovation is one of the key pillars of ENOC’s long-term strategy. The adoption of new technologies across different business segments means that our development strategies are aligned with Dubai Plan 2021. We serve Dubai’s growing energy needs and our 20 years of partnership with DP World has served as a catalyst to that growth.

“By enhancing the fuel operational system at DP World’s terminals, we are now able to use the latest technologies to enhance fuelling efficiency for the entire DP World fleet,” added Al Falasi.

DP World has been one of ENOC’s key customers, having together built more than three stations within the terminals which are run and operated by DP World. ENOC provides diesel and petrol at these stations.

Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO, DP World, said: “Innovation drives DP World’s operations both as a global trade enabler and a contributor to the nation’s economy. The RFID technology is central to the extensive automation efforts at Jebel Ali Port, making it one of the most world’s most efficient ports. We welcome this initiative by our strategic partners ENOC to tag all the terminal vehicles with RFID, which will make their movements within the port and free zone areas seamless, delivering cost and time benefits.

“We look forward to working with ENOC on implementing this innovative initiative, which is in line with our strategy of promoting sustainable practices and our contribution to achieving Dubai’s vision to be the smartest and most eco-friendly city in the world,” added Bin Sulayem.

ENOC does not only serve as fuel provider to DP World but is also closely involved in consultancy, starting from the service station design stage, providing recommendations /solutions on DP World’s requirements for both EHS Standards and Design.

The RFID system is currently installed at DP World’s Terminal 1 and will be rolled out across Terminals 2 and 3 this year and at Terminal 4 early next year.
