Dubai - MENA Herald: CFA Institute, the global association of investment professionals, announces the appointment of Gary Baker, CFA, as managing director of CFA Institute Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) effective immediately. Based in London, Baker will lead the EMEA team to deliver measurable value to CFA Institute stakeholders and constituents throughout the region. He will be responsible for the strategic direction of the EMEA region and will work to strengthen relationships with member societies, institutions, universities, regulators, and institutional partners.
“As CFA Institute continues to grow in the EMEA region, strong leadership is essential to drive meaningful change in the investment profession,” said Paul Smith, CFA, president and CEO of CFA Institute. “We are fortunate to have such a leader in Gary. He brings 30 years’ experience in the investment management industry, including leading complex global organisations. His background and expertise will be invaluable in advancing our mission and strengthening our global connections.”
Baker has previously served as managing director, Deputy Head of Research, with Jefferies, and as managing director, Chief European Equity Strategist, Merrill Lynch. During his career, Gary has been a leader in country, regional, and global roles across Europe, Asia, Australia, and the United States. Baker holds a master's degree in geography from Cambridge University and earned his CFA charter in 1997.
"The CFA Institute mission is to win back public trust in investment management, which has been lost since the financial crisis, by raising standards in the industry and supporting the interests of the individual investor," said Baker.
"After many years working in the investments industry I now look forward to working on behalf of CFA charterholders across Europe and the Middle East and with member societies, universities, regulators and industry partners to help make this vision a reality."
