New partnership to drive global action on Energy Efficiency

Monday 23 November 2015

Dubai - MENA Herald: GE and The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation have announced a new partnership designed to mobilize action on energy efficiency through the promotion of knowledge sharing and discussion in Europe and the Middle East.

The initiative, named Partners for Progress on Energy Efficiency, will provide a platform for the analysis and debate of global views on energy efficiency, with a call to action for both public and private sector organizations to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions within their operations.

As founding partners, the organisations have committed to hosting two annual events dedicated to facilitating discussion on these issues: the Emirates Energy Efficiency Summit (EEES) and the Euro-Mediterranean Forum on Energy Efficiency (EMFEE). The first EEES event will take place in February 2016, with the EMFEE scheduled end of Spring 2016 in Monaco.

The EEES will combine business and social interests with government action in order to elevate awareness and drive energy saving and climate change projects, programs and initiatives. The overall objective will be to foster enhanced communication, while educating participants about key energy efficiency issues and trends, as well as provoking a two-way dialogue that will ultimately help drive real action.

The content for the event will be shaped with high-level input from a guiding executive council, whose members are drawn from some of the most influential organizations in this area.  In addition to the two founding partners, the council includes representatives from Gas Cities, Zayed International Foundation for the Environment, American University in Dubai, The Change Initiative, Etihad Energy Services and the UAE Government.

Held on 3-4 February, the invitation-only EEES will bring together prominent keynote speakers and high-level B2B stakeholders, including business professionals, government legislators and the media.  With a highly informative schedule of roundtable discussions and keynote presentations, the two-day program will include best practice case studies in relation to both commercial buildings and city environments.

“Sharing knowledge and insights is an important part of the process towards creating tangible and lasting change,” commented Agostino Renna, President & CEO of GE Lighting EMEA.  “Our hope is that by creating a safe space for motivated organizations and individuals to come together and debate the real issues and problems, we can help find true solutions to the energy challenges we face today.  We recognise that the Foundation has a wealth of experience in this area and believe that combining this with our own expertise will create a really powerful mix.”

HE Mr Bernard Fautrier Vice-President & CEO of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation commented: “As an organization, our mission is to raise awareness amongst people and governments of the impact of human activities on the natural environment and to encourage more environmentally-friendly behavior.  Partnering with GE will enable us to open positive channels of communication with many more public and private sector organizations across Europe and the Middle East.”
