Abu Dhabi - MENA Herald:

Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) is ensuring health and safety are top priorities at WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017, the world’s largest vocational skills competition currently taking place in the Emirate. ENEC’s team of ‘Health and Safety Ambassadors’ are highlighting the importance of safety culture, which comes as part of ENEC’s role as official Safety Partner and National Gold Partner for the event.

ENEC’s team of Health and Safety Ambassadors worked closely with international experts to check on any safety hazards in the buildup phase and will continue throughout the event. The initiative will promote important messages around health and safety in the workplace and will educate youth on prioritizing safety before embarking on any project.

WorldSkills 2017 aims to inspire young people to delve deeper into technical education and develop skills that they can use for entrepreneurial endeavors or to further their vocational careers. This comes in support of Abu Dhabi Plan, which aims to nurture and develop the next generation of educated, skilled and ambitious youth within the UAE.

Young people from 59 member countries and regions are gathering in Abu Dhabi to compete in 51 different vocational skill competitions. A wide range of skills are featured at the event, including everything from aircraft maintenance, automobile technology, electrical installations, and industrial control through to plumbing and heating.

ENEC Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Mohamed Al Hammadi, commented: “We are proud to play an important role in WorldSkills Abu Dhabi as we work together to help increase knowledge transfer and skills development amongst youth in the UAE. It is crucial that we continue to educate young people on the diverse range of opportunities they have to be part of the development of UAE industries in the future.”

“For the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program, safety is the number one priority. We dedicate significant attention to continuously developing our people and processes, as these are fundamental to quality and safety led nuclear energy operations. Safety is a defining element of our corporate values and culture. Every employee at ENEC and our subsidiaries is responsible for safety, and is empowered to act accordingly. We look forward to passing on our expertise in safety to all participants at the WorldSkills Abu Dhabi competition,” concluded Al Hammadi.

The UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program is built on the most rigorous standards of safety, transparency and security, making the UAE a role model for nuclear energy development worldwide.

ENEC’s stand at the event provides information on the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant and how the project focuses on national and international quality standards to ensure the highest levels of safety.

ENEC and its subsidiaries’ safety performance is regulated by the UAE’s independent nuclear regulator, the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR). Regular safety and quality audits are a core part of the program; ensuring continual improvement in all areas of management and operation.

A critical part of ENEC’s safety culture and ongoing work towards operational readiness is simulation training. The Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant is home to two of the world’s most advanced, full scope, digital training simulators, which are housed in the 7,000-square-meter Simulator Training Center (STC). Individuals who are working toward their certification to operate the Plant gain hands-on experience by interfacing with one of two exact replicas of the Main Control Room (MCR). Trainees are exposed to a series of virtual scenarios that prepare them to play a key role in delivering safe, clean nuclear energy to support the UAE social and economic growth.

These insights into ensuring an effective safety culture will form an important part of the knowledge transfer strategy at WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017. The event will take place over four days at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), concluding on 18 October 2017.
