Dubai - MENA Herald: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) will organise the Emirates Energy Award 2015 ceremony on 18 November at Armani Hotel Dubai.
The Emirates Energy Award (EEA) is held this year under the theme ‘For a Sustainable Future’ to highlight the most important innovations in the field of energy. The award has witnessed the participation of a large number of talented individuals along with leading authorities and institutions at the local, regional and global levels. EEA was launched to promote best practices in energy management and conservation achievements on a global level including creativity, innovation and scientific research in energy efficiency to reduce CO2 emission, and to increase the share of renewable energy in the nation’s energy portfolio. The award is an effective driver of the country’s economic and social development strategies and energy security with a focus on sustainable development.
“The EEA comes in line with the UAE 2021 Vision aiming to make the UAE one of the best countries of the world by 2021, and also falls in line with the UAE National Agenda guidelines for ambitious initiatives and development projects that combine economic growth with sustainable energy and a safe and clean environment. It also complements the announcement by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to mark 2015 as the ‘Year of Innovation’ by encouraging creativity in this field through honouring innovators who have made a clear and positive impact on the lives of the people. This year, the Emirates Energy Award aims to celebrate the best practices in innovative energy and its management resources,” said His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, and MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).
“We are proud to honour individuals, leading authorities and institutions at the local, regional and global levels for their innovative projects in energy conservation and the utilization of renewable energy. We call on our community, government and private institutions to make the best of this opportunity and to support innovative projects which contribute to achieving the UAE 2021 Vision to become one of the best countries in the world," added Al Tayer.
Individuals, companies and institutions from the UAE will be honored for their innovative projects in energy conservation, energy efficiency, the use of reusable energy, and for reducing pollution caused by fuel consumption. In addition, they will also be recognised for their projects on smart cities, the use of solar energy to generate electricity, green buildings, strengthening energy systems to improve energy efficiency. The initiatives and projects that raise public awareness on energy conservation will be recognised as well as projects for introducing new technologies in the field of bottled water. Among the projects from the UAE to be honoured include one on the impact of education in enabling individuals, who have the capabilities and potential in the field of energy management.
Projects submitted on the regional and international levels by individuals and institutions from Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine and Germany will also be honoured. Most of these projects are focused on energy conservation and the utilization of alternative energy sources. There are also innovative techniques in the reduction of CO2 emission from traditional energy sources.
The award highlights the best international practices in energy management, rationalisation, and efficiency to promote the sustainability of natural resources. The EEA plays a key role in establishing Dubai’s position as a global hub for energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainability, and environment protection, as well as supporting the economic growth plans. The Award focuses on energy as it is the key driver of sustainable development.
The previous edition of the EEA had achieved great success in reaching the overarching goals. In this second edition, the total prize of USD 1million will be distributed to the winners in the following six categories: Energy Efficiency in the Public Sector and in the Private Sector, Large Energy Projects, Small Energy Projects, Education and Capacity Building, Research and Development, Young Professional Energy Award, and the Special Recognition Award. Each of the first six awards has Gold, Silver and Bronze categories.
EEA is also considered a global platform for organisations and individuals as it focuses on supporting international efforts to finding innovative and sustainable solutions for environmental pollution, climate change, global warming, CO2 emission and lack of natural resources.
