“We are pleased to be participating in the World Government Summit, which brings together government officials, thought leaders, thinkers, policy makers, and private sector leaders to discuss the best ways to develop the future of government, based on the latest developments and future trends in government. We are honoured to be the Sustainable Energy Partner of the summit. Discussing sustainable energy at this year’s summit reflects the importance the UAE attached to this topic. The United Arab Emirates, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, attaches great importance to diversifying the energy mix. The UAE’s green vision recognises that renewable energy contributes to achieving a balance between development and environment to ensure a clean, healthy and safe environment for generations to come,” said Al Tayer.
“At the World Government Summit, we will highlight the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to provide 7% of Dubai’s energy from clean sources by 2020, 25% by 2030 and 75% by 2050. We will also review DEWA’s efforts to achieve the vision of His Highness and make Dubai a global hub for clean energy and green economy, and the city with the lowest carbon footprint in the world. We will also share our experience in increasing use of renewable energy. This includes the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is the largest single-site solar energy project in the world, based on the independent power producer model. The solar park will produce 1,000 MW by 2020 and 5,000MW by 2030 with a total investment of AED 50 billion. It will help achieve a reduction of approximately 6.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually, which supports Dubai Government’s green initiatives and programmes,” added Al Tayer.
“At the World Government Summit, we will exchange knowledge and experiences with experts from all over the world as well as share our best practices with the world. We support the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum who has observed that Dubai’s experience is “available for whoever wants to study it and take advantage of it. Our goal is to achieve welfare for all people,” concluded Al Tayer.
In addition to the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, DEWA will showcase its Shams Dubai initiative, which encourages building owners to install photovoltaic panels on rooftops to generate solar power. Dubai aims to install solar panels on the roofs of all buildings in Dubai by 2030
