Global Future Council on Mobility Discusses the Requirements of the New Generation of Mobility “On-Demand”

During the Third Annual Meeting of the Global Future Councils, the Global Future Council on Mobility explored the massive developments and innovations in the field of mobility, and the resulting transformations over the last few years.

The Council discussed the role of innovation in mobility solutions on the movement of people and goods. The Council also pinpointed the importance of having a clean, safe and comprehensive transportation system in the future, in addition to highlighting the requirements of the new generation of mobility “On-Demand” and the means of supporting it with new features that meet the needs of this sector.

Participants went through a number of initiatives that aim to shape the future of mobility, taking into consideration the impact of cities, advanced technologies and sustainability on communities and transport. They further tackled the most important needs of the sector such as mobility solutions for employees, the limitations of data needed to support seamless transport, and the lack of investment in transport infrastructure.

Members of the Council identified the factors of global mobility system, namely providing seamless transport, focusing on economic development as a priority, and enabling “mobility for all” through market forces.

The meeting discussed the goals of private sector in transportation sector, and the focus on “more mobility” compared to focusing on adopting the opportunities of “less mobility.” The meeting also discussed the structural factors, situations and operations that would eventually lead to achieving end-results affecting the public transport system.

The Third Annual Meeting of the Global Future Councils is held in Dubai, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in collaboration between the UAE Government and the World Economic Forum. The meetings bring together more than 700 of the most relevant and knowledgeable scientists, futurists and experts, grouped in 38 expertise-based, thematic councils that discuss the future of vital sectors and develop practical solutions to challenging issues.
