Dubai - MENA Herald:

In response to the recent fire in the Torch Tower building in Dubai, Careem has worked with the UAE’s leading insurance marketplace, ServiceMarket in a bid to encourage more people to take out home insurance. Careem customers will be offered 15% off their annual policy if they sign up by August 31 using promocode “CAREEM”.

According to ServiceMarket around 90% of people living in Dubai do not currently have home insurance, but there has been a soar in policy sales since the Torch Tower fire. Commenting on the market dynamics, Emre Guclu, Head of Insurance at ServiceMarket, said that, “We often see a significant increase in home insurance sales immediately after such fires . However, it’s important that all residents consider the risks and purchase home insurance cover to protect themselves against such incidents. After all, no one can predict what might go wrong when.”

A recent survey conducted by ServiceMarket revealed that of the people who didn’t have home insurance, 42 percent didn’t see the point of it as they rent their homes. Emre Guclu explained that, “It is a common misconception that you do not need home insurance if you are renting. However, tenants should have insurance to protect their own belongings and to cover themselves against any liabilities in case something should go wrong. Without home contents or personal possessions insurance, if your belongings are lost in a fire or any other unfortunate event – including burglary – you will get nothing back. That could be a very large amount of money you lose. Just consider the cost of replacing all your clothes, furniture, money and white goods. For most people this cost would easily exceed the value of their car.”

On introducing the special rate Bassel Al Nahlaoui VP of Business Development and Government Relations at Careem, said: “As movers of people and things, we feel it’s our responsibility to be there when disasters happen so that we can offer our support. With the recent fire at Torch Tower, we realised just how vulnerable many of our customers and employees are when it comes to being covered for damages and lost personal belongings. We reached out to our partners at ServiceMarket and they were more than happy to help offer special rates to Careem customers in a bid to get them to act sooner rather than later. Anything we can do to help raise awareness on the importance of protecting your home, we are more than happy to be a part of.
