Her Excellency Shamma Al Mazrui welcomes members of DEWA’s Youth Council

Her Excellency Shamma bint Suhail bin Faris Al Mazrui, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, welcomed members of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) Youth Council at the Youth Centre at Emirates Towers in Dubai. During the meeting, Her Excellency emphasised the pivotal role of youth councils in the UAE in supporting the directives of the wise leadership to effectively involve and empower the youth. Fatima Mohammed Al Jokar, Chairperson of DEWA’s Youth Council, briefed Her Excellency about the Council’s latest achievements and ideas presented to DEWA’s management and got implemented, as well as its participation in various events, and contributions to empowering young people and enhancing their role in achieving the sustainable development of the UAE.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, appreciated Al Mazrui’s hosting of DEWA’s Youth Council, commending Her Excellency’s commitment to communicating with the youth, listening to their ideas, and involving them in the decision-making process related to challenges that face the youth in the UAE.

“We are proud of the achievements of DEWA’s Youth Council and all ministerial and institutional councils in the UAE. These councils have demonstrated that our young people are capable of working side by side with leaders of government and private organisations in decision-making and taking the responsibility to manage major projects inside and outside of the UAE. They can also work effectively with the local community in developing the sustainable development of our country,” said Al Mazrui.

Al Mazrui commended DEWA’s management, under the leadership of HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, for taking care of DEWA’s youth, whether employees or students, noting that many young Emiratis benefit from the scholarships that DEWA provides for student in the UAE and abroad. DEWA is committed to interacting with the youth and actively involving them in all its projects.

“DEWA is committed to actively contributing to youth initiatives in line with the vision of our wise leadership that the youth are the driving force for a brighter future. DEWA provides its young employees with all the capabilities to pursue excellence in all areas within a motivating environment that helps them achieve their ambitions and enables them to actively participate in the sustainable development of the UAE. DEWA was the first government organisation to host a Youth Circle under the theme ‘Youth and Sustainability’, with the participation of Her Excellency Shamma Al Mazrui, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, and a large number of DEWA’s young staff. We believe that today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders and the cornerstone of the sustainable development that our wise leadership seeks to achieve,” said Al Tayer.

Al Jokar noted that since its inception in January 2017, DEWA Youth Council has implemented a number of successful initiatives such as the Youth Retreat, the Youth Circles, the Youth Sustainability Forum in cooperation with the Dubai Youth Council, and the Youth Sustainability Pledge. The Council also has created a database for the youth in DEWA. She noted that DEWA’s young employees participate in several community volunteering activities in cooperation with the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia).
