Graffiti represents DEWA2021

Dubai - MENA Herald: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), with the cooperation of Dubai universities, has announced the launch of a graffiti art competition, to support the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, to support creativity and innovation. His Highness announced 2015 as the Year of Innovation and launched UAE Innovation Week, which is being held this month.

“In line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and to support UAE Innovation Week and encourage a culture of innovation in the public and private sectors, DEWA is giving the opportunity to students at Dubai universities to show their creativity, by presenting innovative graffiti and art to represent the five main priorities of DEWA’s 2021 strategy,. These paintings will enter into a competition that will allow the public to vote for the best painting through social media. The initiative will raise awareness about DEWA2021, and its pioneering social projects, and how they will support the attainment of DEWA’s strategic goals,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“DEWA cooperates with a collection of universities, including Zayed University, the American University in Dubai, the American University in the UAE, and the American University in Sharjah. These universities will form five teams of five students, to represent each of the five strategic goals of DEWA2021. A supervisor, who is a member of DEWA’s senior management, will support each team.,” said Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Strategy & Business Development at DEWA.

The winners will be chosen through an external public vote via social media, using the hashtag #DEWA2021Art and an internal vote by DEWA staff, to achieve the goals of the initiative in cooperation with the community.

Many awards will be available to support creative research at the universities. The university to achieve first place will get AED 100,000. Members of the public will also have the chance to win by voting for their favorite painting The winners will be announced in a special ceremony during UAE Innovation Week (22-28 November) at DEWA’s head offices.
