Global scientist and experts stressed that the future changes, mandated by the accelerated developments in many fields, are imposing an urge to develop a New Social Contract aligned with the current stage, the requirements of the future, and the global trends to face these challenges. This can be achieved through a comprehensive approach to human-based economic growth.
This came during the meeting of the Global Future Council on the New Social Contract, which aims to analyze and develop ideas on new models to promote equity and inclusion, boost the future of work and education, and tackle the most pressing issues within the social context.
The Council reviewed the means of launching a global dialogue as regards a new comprehensive human-based approach for economic growth in the light of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), under the umbrella of the Centre for the New Economy and Society of the World Economic Forum, and in cooperation with the Global Future Council on the New Economic Agenda.
Participants stressed the importance of establishing a new social contract due to factors affecting the future of the world such as globalization, the economic shift from the west to the east, and urbanizations. They also affirmed that governmental, private and social sectors must cooperate in searching for solutions to curb future social challenges.
The Council noted that the upcoming future technological revolution demand all parties to participate in finding solutions and facing challenges. It added that governments must adopt fundamental changes in developing public policies, providing services, and adapting to the changes resulting from the unprecedented levels of local and global interconnection enabled by modern communication technologies.
The Third Annual Meeting of the Global Future Councils is held in Dubai, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in collaboration between the UAE Government and the World Economic Forum. The meetings bring together more than 700 of the most relevant and knowledgeable scientists, futurists and experts, grouped in 38 expertise-based, thematic councils that discuss the future of vital sectors and develop practical solutions to challenging issues.
