Dubai - MENA Herald: Dubai Science Park (DSP), the free zone community dedicated to facilitating and fostering the growth of the UAE’s science sector yesterday held their annual science career fair where over 60 positions were on offer to job-seeking students.

The latest hiring trends in the UAE, according to Monster.com, show that healthcare is the fastest growing industry in terms of the number of hires per year (60%), depicting a strong drive for new talent in one of DSP’s primary focus areas.

The DSP career fair welcomed 18 international and regional companies from across the science sector, including Pfizer, Amerispecs, HITS, PTL Solar and Thermo Fisher Scientific to showcase their businesses and meet with graduates. Aimed at a diverse mix of attendees, from undergraduate to Masters level students, studying a wide range of disciplines within the science faculty, it was designed to provide a platform for networking and discussion in order to set many science-based careers off on the right path.

Marwan Abdulaziz, Executive Director of Dubai Science Park said:
“Despite the challenging macro environment driven by suppressed global oil prices, recruitment opportunities in the UAE continue to do well thanks to a well-diversified economy, and our business partners see the value in meeting with, and recruiting new, local, skilled talent.

“Events like our annual Career Fair are crucial to attract and retain young local talent in the science sector in order to drive the local economy now, and well into the future. This platform gives students the opportunity to take part in work experience, and facilitate career discussions with some of the most reputational global firms in the Science sector. For our business partners, it can help inject youth into growing businesses, diversify its faculty, spurring innovation, and drive Emiratisation.”
Colin McCracken, Vice President & General Manager Middle East, Africa and Eastern Europe, Thermo Fisher Scientific commented:
“We are delighted to, once again, be part of The Dubai Science Park Annual Career Fair. Our business growth is a direct result of the highly skilled individuals we employ and therefore it is vital that we continue to attract top talent. Participating in networking events such as this enables us to meet potential employees, and also raise awareness of what a career within Thermo Fisher Scientific can offer.”

Kavita Shukla, Head, Corporate Resource Center, Amity University, Dubai added:
“The Dubai Science Park Annual Career Fair is an important calendar event for Amity University students and alumni. There are a host of opportunities available for our students, not only in Science-specific programmes, but also in other functional areas like marketing, finance and sales. The Fair goes a long way in supporting and retaining talent in the UAE, and we wish the students every success in creating new relationships for their future through this Career Fair.”
