Tuesday 11 October 2016

Ras Al Khaimah - MENA Herald: As public interest in the amazing world of advanced materials grows following the recent Nobel Laureate announcements in Chemistry and Physics, the organisers of the 9th International Workshop on Advanced Materials (IWAM – 2017) in Ras Al Khaimah have requested abstract submissions from professors, graduate students and postdoctoral researchers prior the event’s latest incarnation between 19-21 February 2017. Those who are working in areas related to Nanomaterials for Energy and Environment, Graphene and Carbon Nanotubes, Advanced Materials and Nanocatalysis for energy production, conversion, storage and efficiency, Water Purification, Environmental Remediation and Advanced Structural Materials are being encouraged to apply to participate at IWAM – 2017, and can do so through the organisation’s website (iwam-rakcam.com).

IWAM, recognised as a high point in the advanced materials calendar, traditionally attracts some of the world’s most prominent advanced materials scientists. Frequent visitors and contributors include CNR Rao, Mildred Dresselhaus, M.L. Klein, Tony Cheetham and Sir Richard Friend, all of whom are at the top of their specific fields. IWAM is acknowledged as one of the few moments on the global scientific calendar when these megastars of science gather in one place.

Alongside the request for submissions RAKCAM is allocating travel grants for graduate students who submit poster abstracts that will be displayed at the event. This is in addition to a low-cost registration fee of US$150 for graduate students who want to attend, and are recommended by their research advisors. Details for those who are interested are available on iwam-rakcam.com, with the deadline set for October 31st.

The annual event is hosted by Ras Al Khaimah Centre for Advanced Materials (RAKCAM) in association with the Sheikh Saqr Laboratory and under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.
