Dubai - MENA Herald: OSN, the region’s leading pay-TV network in the Middle East and North Africa, has commended the efforts of the Egyptian police for carrying out its first and most successful raid to date against illegal TV operators in Cairo.
Egyptian authorities have conducted successful raids at two shops in the Bab Elok area of the city resulting in the confiscation of illegal TV decoders, a personal computer with IP activated codes, local area connector converters, and IPTV software with flash memory cards. Two men were arrested in the raids.
The raids in Egypt against illegal TV operators are part of a concerted campaign organised by OSN across the region. Several illegal operators have been arrested in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Oman as authorities step up efforts to curb TV piracy that causes heavy losses to the industry and the creative sector.
Ahmed Atef, Director of the Works Crime Investigation, Egyptian police, said: “We have added several sophisticated technologies that enable us to identify illegal TV operators and take prompt action. TV piracy is a blatant violation of Intellectual Property Rights that has an adverse impact on the economy. We take this issue seriously and are committed to taking firm action against illegal operators.”
