Dr. Alzeyoudi Chairs First Meeting of Emirates Committee for Sustainable Environment Research

Dubai - MENA Herald: In his capacity as Head of the Emirates Committee for Sustainable Environment Research, His Excellency Dr. Thani Ahmed Alzeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, chaired the first committee meeting.
Dr. Al Zeyoudi said that the Emirates Committee for Sustainable Environment Research embodies the ministry’s commitment to support sustainable practices, efficient use of resources and drive scientific research across the country and to drive behavioral change in accordance with the National Agenda.
During the meeting held at the International Centre for Biosaline Agriculture, the members reviewed and finalized the overall goals of the committee and openly discussed the challenges and opportunities of scientific research in the UAE. Additionally, they identified and prioritized the next steps that should be taken, as well as assigned each member the responsibility and timeline to complete the allocated tasks.
Dr. Al Zeyoudi indicated that the committee will play an important role in the continued efforts to find research-driven, innovative and environment friendly solutions for clean energy in the UAE. He also stressed the wider imperative of continuing to drive research and studies that can act as a catalyst for sustainable development across various sectors in the UAE.
The committee was formed recently by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and comprises representatives from a range of organisations, entities and universities across the public and private sectors. They are responsible for overseeing the development of a research strategy and an integrated work stream on environmental sustainability and climate change, which are key priorities of the UAE Government.
The meeting witnessed the attendance of officials and representatives from the Ministry of Education, the United Arab Emirates University, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the American University of Sharjah, British University in Dubai, Dubai Police Academy, Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research, the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, New York University, University of the Sorbonne in Abu Dhabi, University of Sharjah, Zayed University and Ajman University of Science and Technology as well as the American University in Dubai and International Center for Biosaline Agriculture and Dubai Real Estate Institute.
