DIEDC Participates in Muslim World Biz 2015 in Kuala Lumpur, Wins ‘2015 Jewels of Muslim World’ Award

Dubai - MENA Herald: Dubai Islamic Economy Development Centre (DIEDC) marked a successful participation at the 6th Muslim World Biz in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Organised by the OIC International Business Centre in collaboration with the Islamic Centre for Development of Trade (ICDT), Morocco, and the support of the Malaysian government, the four-day event provided an ideal platform for governments, corporations, international investors, industry players and entrepreneurs to explore joint ventures, investment and trade opportunities in the Muslim world.

As part of DIEDC’s participation, CEO Abdulla Mohammed Al Awar shared his perspectives at roundtable discussions. As a key panellist in a session titled ‘Leadership in action vs Leadership in Crisis’ he emphasised the specific qualities and skills required for today’s leaders to shape relevant strategies in times of action and crisis.

Based on his successful journey at DIEDC and drawing from his earlier experiences in leadership, Al Awar provided participants with an overview of the visionary approach adopted by Dubai and the UAE in overcoming the challenges and repercussions of the financial crisis and the country’s proactive steps in reinforcing investor confidence in the UAE as a global financial hub.

For his part, Dr Khalid Janahi, Advisor, DIEDC also participated in the OIC-Asia Trade & Economic Forum 2015, a key component of the event. At a thought session titled ‘OIC Today: Key Challenges and Thinking Forward’, Dr Janahi shared his views on ways to enhance trade and investment between the OIC and countries in Asia. He also highlighted the pivotal role of the Islamic economy initiative in enhancing macroeconomic and financial stability through sustainably growing and diversifying the local economy.

The Jewels of Muslim World Award 2015 served as a grand finale to the event Notably, Abdulla Mohammed Al Awar, CEO of DIEDC was named as one of the movers and shakers of Islamic economies, in recognition of his outstanding efforts in promoting the Islamic economy and its potential to generate wealth and prosperity throughout the Muslim world.

The ‘Jewels of Muslim World’ award given away by the OIC Today Magazine honours individual excellence, innovation and accomplishment in helping shape an Islamic economy worldwide. The OIC rewards outstanding individual contributions in order to inspire the emerging younger generation and enhance the image of Muslims as productive and capable participants in the global economy.

Among the 10 Jewels of Muslim World award recipients this year include Tan Sri Prof Mohd Yusof Noor, President/ CEO of the Islamic University of Malaysia; Datuk Mohd Emir Mavani Abdullah, President of Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd Group; Mahmud Abbas, CEO of Central Spectrum; Amer Bukvic, CEO of Bosnia Bank International; and Gholamali Soleimani, Founder of Solico Group.

The inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award was posthumously conferred on Dr Raja Mohamad Abdullah Datuk, founder of the Muslim World Biz, who passed away in March this year. The award was received by his wife Datin Nordi Mohamad Hussien.

Speaking ahead of the sixth Muslim World Biz 2015 Award ceremony, Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, Malaysian Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, said: “It is important that the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) nations support each other as we each strive to reach our goals and improve our countries. It is our responsibility to use our great minds and capabilities for the betterment of our communities and the world at large through shaping a robust Islamic economy and highlighting its enormous potential on the global landscape.”

Abdulla Mohammed Al Awar said: “On behalf of DIEDC, I thank the OIC Today Magazine for granting me this prestigious award and naming me as one of the jewels of Islamic economy. More importantly the distinction highlights Dubai and the UAE’s efforts in creating a sustainable economy through endorsing a holistic strategy for the Islamic economy. It is a rare honour to participate in a landmark event that positions the OIC as a key player in building a better future for future generations of the Muslim world.”
