Dubai - MENA Herald: In line with the UAE’s vision for 2021 to be among the best countries in the world by using key indicators in different social and government sectors, the 22nd GCC Smart Government & Smart Cities Conference opened today in Dubai at the Ritz Carlton DIFC, and will be ongoing until Wednesday 25th May. Now in its 22nd year, the summit, sponsored by AW Rostamani Group’s Information and Technology arm, Shift Technologies continues to be an increasingly effective platform for sharing global best practices pertaining to organizational transformation and strategic planning in governments.

Strongly supporting the vision of global governments in adopting a strategy of sustainable global excellence, the summit focuses on the need to empower organizations through leadership, entrepreneurship, knowledge management and capacity building, thereby enabling them to face new challenges, which continually arise in today’s globally interlinked society of integrated economy, modern management and smart cities.

The central theme of the summit addresses how governments can create strong and lasting relationships in the global community between leaders and the government, corporate, and community sectors. The five-day conference agenda will focus on achieving this in three main way; strengthening future human capital, fortifying the knowledge development strategy, and sharing global best practices and innovative strategies.
The summit is one of the largest smart government summits in the world and attracts over 400 ministers, CEOs and senior decision makers as well as an exception line up of local, regional and global speakers. Mr. Yousef AlBarkawie, Head of AW Rostamani Shift Technologies and a key speaker at the summit, highlighted that there is a need for Smart City and the Government’s Strategy.
Sharing his insights on the topic, Mr. AlBarkawie said: “The digital revolution has started long ago. Multiple businesses in different sectors across the GCC have already started planning their digital transformation, and some have started execution. In the digital age, a bi-modal operating model, whether in IT or in Business, is essential to the success of the organization, so just because it appears as “business as usual”, doesn’t mean that the digitization has not started yet.”
He also discussed AW Rostamani’s role in supporting this initiative. “We are working with various organizations across multiple industries and across the GCC to help them get ready for what’s to come. For example, we are working with various government organizations within the UAE, such as Dubai Civil Defence and Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority on similar initiatives.”
“In Saudi Arabia, we’re working with organizations like Saudi Exports Development Authority to streamline business operations and ensure full alignment between business and technology, and identifying critical business capabilities that allow them to not only plan and organize their business services, but to also better understand where their business capabilities lie and how to best leverage it.”
“Additionally, we’re working with different industries on their innovation initiatives, such as Saudi Aramco and Zain Telecommunication in Kuwait just to name a few.”
The summit will also honour companies that have excelled in different types of smart technology for their excellence. The awards which will be presented over the coming days include: the Smart ICT Governance Excellence Award, the Smart Education Systems Cloud Initiative Excellence Award, the Total e-People Excellence Award, the Corporate Knowledge Management Excellence Award, the Smart Services in Employer Branding and Recruitment Excellence Award, and the GCC Government integrated e Service Excellence Award.
