44 additional free zones to join World Free Zones Organization

UAE –MENA Herald: The World Free Zones Organization (World FZO) concluded its 2nd Board of Directors meeting this year held recently in Tangier, Morocco. The session was headed by Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Chairman of the World FZO, in the presence of a number of senior officials and members. Among the highlights was the announcement of the inclusion of 44 new free zones to the ranks of the World FZO amidst growing acclaim for the organization’s pivotal role in supporting the growth of free zones around the world and supplying them with the necessary facilities to actively contribute to economic and social development.

The meeting concluded with an agreement on a series of decisions and innovative solutions for upgrading free zones worldwide and comprehensively developing the relevant provided services. Among these was the launching of a Master’s Degree program in free zone management in collaboration with the leading business management schoolIESE Business School. This represents a major step in the development of workers and specialists possessing a high degree of competence and knowledge in various aspects related to free zone management.

In order to keep pace with the evolving technology witnessed in various sectors and vital areas, the attendees emphasized the need to launch mobile smart applications to facilitate access to World FZO’s services and enable partners and entities to follow the latest developments and information on the organization easily and conveniently. This would include the creationof a custom electronic platform to promote trade between members, enabling companies supporting the free zones to provide comprehensive services to members of the electronic platform. The participants also agreed to launch a program for the development of smart, green, and safe free zones.

Dr. Al Zarooni commended the results of the 2nd meeting of the World FZO, emphasizing the importance of enhancing the exchange of knowledge, experiences and best practices among free zones which are formed to attract foreign direct investment and facilitate trade mechanisms as well as the global supply chain. He further noted that free zones help in the creation of more jobs which contribute to the development of global economies and energize world trade.

Al Zarooni said: “The 44 new free zones are quality additions to the World FZO networkwhich come in line with the organization’s ambitious vision of serving as an incubator for all free zones of various kinds and models around the world. The World FZO will continue to provide a unified platform for strengthening the role of free zones as key contributors to socio-economic development and sustainability and to encourage international efforts to raise the sector to new levels of excellence and leadership.”

“We affirm on our commitment to keep a steady pace of excellence and continuous expansion to achieve the desired objectives,” he concluded.

The meeting included the approval of the conditions and procedures for hosting the organization’sFree Zone Outlook 2nd Annual International Conference andExhibitionwhich will be held from May 9 to 11, 2016 in Dubai and expected to have over 1000 attendees and high profile key note speakers. The KnowledgeCommitteewas also tasked to prepare a comprehensive redraft for the vision, goals and institutional values of the organization in line with the Board of Directors’ efforts to ensure the highest degree of transparency and to provide the best services and solutions to members.
