Dubai - MENA Herald: HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has delivered a keynote speech at the 8th Arabia CSR Forum and Awards. The event was organised by the Arabia CSR Network under the auspices of The League of Arab States and with the support of The United Nations Global Compact, in strategic cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

During the opening session, Habiba Al Marashi, President & CEO of the Arabia CSR Network, and Dr. Shahira Wehbi, representing Dr. Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Tuwaijri, Assistant Secretary General of the Arab League for Economic Affairs, both gave speeches. Al Tayer also received a trophy from Al Marashi. Many public and private sector and NGO representatives attended the event.

“I’m honoured to be a part of the 8th Arabia CSR Forum and Awards. Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has promoted CSR, to support the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, and is playing an instrumental role as a socially-responsible government institution to support the UAE Vision 2021, to make the UAE one of the best countries in the world by 2021, and the Dubai Plan 2021 to make Dubai a tolerant and inclusive society, which embraces civic values,” said Al Tayer, in his speech to the forum.

“DEWA rigorously adopts plans and strategies that comply with the best practices and global standards to achieve its vision in corporate social responsibility. For a long time, DEWA’s community initiatives formed an integral part of its strategy directed towards good public service. We are not only providing electricity and water services, but we also support all social measures that boost the growth and prosperity of Dubai and the UAE through our social initiatives and programmes,” added Al Tayer.

“To support the initiative of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, we launched the Ruwaad programme, to boost creativity and innovation among orphans .The programme involves sending a group of orphans for creativity training outside the UAE. Our support of this scheme is further evidence that we fully understand the importance of our roles beyond the current responsibilities assigned to us. We are also committed to being an active member of society and promoting social development in general. For many years, DEWA has launched, sponsored and endorsed a wide range of social topics that seek to advance society. Social responsibility has become an integral part of our strategy, as it is a catalyst for spreading a sense of responsibility to ensure a world-class living experience for individuals by ensuring a healthy and safe environment,” added Al Tayer.

“This forum accords with DEWA’s Vision 2021, and its efforts to engage stakeholders by implementing all its annual social responsibility plans, and to achieve the highest levels of happiness. We are moving forward with our vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility. Sustainable development is based on three main components of economy, society and the environment. These are essential as, when they are integrated, the goals of sustainable development will be met. This is what motivates us to support initiatives and conferences that deal with this sector, and to encourage institutions to fulfil their obligations to the communities in which they operate,” stated His Excellency.

“We believe that this forum provides a comprehensive insight into behavioural change for governments and institutions, as well as the necessary systems that focus on the need to raise awareness and support for concerted sectors in society and achieve sustainable development of the countries' requirements. We support the goals of the Arabia CSR Network in this Forum: to reach out to government departments, private organisations and social organisations in the Arab world to develop more credible solutions to social responsibility here,” said Al Tayer.

“Through our participation in the Arabia CSR Forum and Awards, we are highlighting the best practices and stimulating the exchange of ideas and knowledge in CSR in the Arab world. This will help develop regional models of excellence and social responsibility, to achieve better sustainability and community responsibility as part of our permanent quest towards excellence in all our operations. This also integrates with our efforts to develop social work and sustainability, to promote a happy society.”

“Thanks to its leadership in the field of CSR, DEWA has received the MVO 8000 certification in social responsibility, to become the first government institution in Dubai to receive this global recognition. It has also reached advanced levels in implementing the guidelines of ISO 26000 in social responsibility. This accomplishment adds to DEWA’s roster of achievements in social services. The two distinguished certificates underline DEWA’s excellent efforts in servicing society, its pioneering initiatives as a socially-responsible government organisation, and its success in implementing CSR strategies, according to the highest standards and best international practices.”

“DEWA gives top priority to individuals and ensures their welfare by providing pioneering health and educational services that guarantee a suitable life for residents and citizens. CSR is a very important element in any strategy for an institution with an international vision,” concluded His Excellency.
