Tuesday 19 January 2016

Dubai – MENA Herald: The Dubai Shopping Festival is in full swing and the exciting atmosphere has reached the Dragon Mart, the largest trading hub for Chinese products outside mainland China. Shoppers have over 4,000 different stores to make their way through and find tons of great products – from stationary and clothes, all the way to heavy duty machinery and tools. There is something for everyone at Dragon Mart in Dubai.

UAE and GCC residents flock to Dragon Mart to find the best deals around, especially when looking for products that are hard to find, and now with discounts between 25-50% on a range of items, DSF shoppers are bound to pick up unbeatable deals and great bargains.

Saeed Abdullah, a Saudi Arabian national who is employed in the private sector, is on a short business trip to Dubai, and has decided to make a stop at Dragon Mart, which he first found out about from friends two years ago. “Everyone in Saudi Arabia has heard of Dragon Mart as it is known to have very competitive prices, as well as a sheer variety of product. I have mainly shopped for kids’ toys, fashion accessories and electronics. I’m going to have to come back tomorrow because it’s the kind of place you just need to revisit. I have noticed an improvement in the quality of products available at Dragon Mart and an increase in the number of shoppers over the past two years.”

Friends Alaa Ali and Laila Seiari are also visiting from Saudi Arabia where they work for a Dubai-based company, They decided to make a visit to Dragon Mart to find gifts for friends.

Alaa said: “We are used to shopping for gifts and electronics at Dragon Mart because it’s so diverse and well-priced. It’s always on our list of malls to visit when we come to Dubai.”

Laila said: “Since coming to Dubai a few days ago I have spent more than 8000 dirhams, half of which I spent right here at Dragon Mart! This place needs a lot of time just to explore all its different sections and irresistible deals. I spent the rest of my money at Global Village on products from various pavilions.”

DSF is back for its 21st edition playing a pivotal role in attracting tourists from the GCC, especially from Saudi Arabia. Many tourists from India, China, Africa, and Russia have also flown into the emirate in huge numbers, bolstering Dubai’s position as a retail hub in the region.

Abdullah Darwish, visiting from Kuwait with his family, is checking out Dragon Mart for the first time after it was recommended by a friend. He said: “The deals are actually great because everything is offered at competitive prices there is also such a massive variety of goods on offer. I did not expect the mall to be this huge – I have had to do a whole lot of walking and bargaining today.”

Abdullah’s daughter, Sheikha, said: “I love the toys at Dragon Mart especially the electric scooter. I am also looking for a special cover for my mobile phone.”

Seoud Khaled is visiting from Qatar with his family, and he said: “We are quite regular visitors to both Dragon Mart and the Dubai Shopping Festival. This year I am using DSF as a good time to pick out ceramics, doors, door knobs, wallpaper and kitchen and bathroom appliances as we are furnishing a new house and this is the perfect place to find products like that but at a great price. So far I have spent 50,000 dirhams.

“Dragon Mart is quite the unique place owing to its products and prices. As long as you know what you need, you won’t have to shop anywhere but here. Granted, there are variations in the quality of products here and you need to have some expertise in bargaining with the store owners but, as a general rule, the more you spend on a product the higher the quality.”

Ling Lin, Chinese, owner of accessories store ’Gold Fashion Trading’, said: “My store is offering discounts up to 25%. Our prices are already very competitive before discounts.”

Christese, a Filipino who owns a surveillance camera store, said: “I try my best to not make a customer leave without purchasing so I give them the biggest discount that I possibly can. These days during DSF the number of customers has really increased – it’s like every day is a weekend now.”

Dragon Mart is a retail project of Nakheel, a Strategic Partner of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) and the organisers of DSF, which runs this year until 1 February under the tagline ‘Unwrap The Exceptional’.

Nakheel has recently announced that it planned to expand the size of Dragon Mart to 11 Million square feet. The expansion aims to transform Dragon Mart into a huge retail, residential, and entertainment destination called Dragon City.
