Collaboration at Tashkeel: Works from Hazem Harb’s Workshop and an Experimental Project with Hungary’s HybridArt

Sunday 04 October 2015

Dubai - MENA Herald: For October the gallery space at Tashkeel will host two back to back exhibitions highlighting the art of collaboration. From October 6 – 20, the outcomes of a 3-day sculptural and collaborative workshop using found objects and materials led by Hazem Harb will be showcased; and from October 27 – November 5, as part of Dubai Design Week, Tashkeel hosts Soundweaving in collaboration with Hybridart – an interdisciplinary, experimental and interactive project produced at Moholy Nagy Art University (MOME), Budapest.

The first exhibition aptly titled Found, showcases results from the October workshop where Harb led five participants through a series of processes which he uses himself, from understanding the form and nature of the material to deconstructing and reconstructing objects. The exhibition will include the final pieces and preparatory work by Mays Albeik, Hadeyah Badri, Ammar Al Attar, Seema Rao, and Hazem Harb.

The second exhibition, and as part of Dubai Design Week, Tashkeel collaborates with Hybridart to present Soundweaving. Produced at Moholy Nagy Art University (MOME) in Hungary, this exhibition brings together the collective work of textile designer Zsanett Szirmay and composer Bálint Tárkány-Kovács, first showcased at Vienna Design Week in 2014.

At the core of the exhibition are patterns derived from rugs created by Afghan women artisans, who work under the Fatima Bint Mohammed Initiative (FBMI). Soundweaving straddles art, handicraft, design and music, equally stimulating all senses, and calling for interaction.  Using various media, the project works with multiple methods, balancing the analogue and the digital, mapping visual and aural cultures.
