City Centre Me’aisem awarded Green Commercial Building of the Year

Dubai - MENA Herald: Majid Al Futtaim’s City Centre Me’aisem was awarded the esteemed title of ‘Green Commercial Building of the Year’ in the MENA region for its continued efforts in maintaining responsible energy standards and the best environmental design at the EmiratesGBC Gala Dinner and Awards on May 18, 2016
Now in its fourth year, the EmiratesGBC Awards Program honoured companies that demonstrated a clear implementation of sustainable design, construction and operation of buildings and structures.
The event was attended by representatives of key industry leaders from Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council, World Green Building Council and the Green Building Councils from Lebanon, Qatar and Jordan, among others.

As the first Platinum LEED certified building in the region, City Centre Me’aisem is built on 325,000 square feet, comprising of 23,850 square metres of Gross Leasable Area and is spread on a 1-level mall featuring contemporary world-class design, sustainability measures, accessibility and premium finish. Named for its location in the Me’aisem area of International Media Production Zone (IMPZ) in Dubai, the mall is strategically situated in the growth corridor of Dubai near the intersection of Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road.
The community lifestyle destination is built in line with Majid Al Futtaim’s sustainability vision and features a ‘Bionest’ water recycling system, the UAE’s first-ever solar panel lighting solution in its parking area, a reflective roofing membrane that minimizes solar gain, energy-efficient LEED-compliant lights and water saving taps, with more than 83% of all construction elements coming from recycled material.
The mall implements a well-insulated rooftop and walls that exceed legal requirements. It contains convenient shading elements for many of the south-facing windows and is designed with a landscaping scheme inspired by Wadis’ with local, low water consuming plants. All the water required for irrigation is provided by STP plant treating washroom sewage water.
