‘Sew Pink,’ the community ‘sewathon’ for breast cancer awareness from Oct. 29 at Dubai Marina Mall

Wednesday 28 October 2015

Dubai - MENA Herald: The second edition of ‘Sew Pink,’ a community sewing marathon by Craft Land, local breast cancer support group Brest Friends and sewing machine manufacturer Brother, will be held from October 29 to 31, at Dubai Marina Mall.

The premier retail and entertainment edition in Dubai Marina was the host venue of the first edition last year which saw more than 360 volunteers take part in the 36-hour ‘sewathon.’ Men, women and children from all walks of life took part in the breast cancer awareness campaign and exceeded the target set by sewing 668 mastectomy cushions and drainage bags.

This year, Sew Pink will be held for 10 hours daily from 10am to 8pm to create ‘care packs’ for breast cancer patients. Volunteers will work in production lines to produce mastectomy cushions and bags that will be part of a care pack for patients recovering from breast surgery.

The care packs offer comfort and mobility to patients, helping them keep active as they heal, and will be distributed by Brest Friends. Even those who do not know sewing can take part in the campaign, helping the experts with stuffing and cutting apart from extending moral support for a noble cause.
