Sharjah’s Khorfakkan Port receives luxury cruise liner MS Europa 2

Sharjah - MENA Herald: Highlighting Sharjah’s position as a key cruise tourism destination in the region, international cruise liner MS Europa 2 arrived at the Khorfakkan Port with more than 500 tourists on board. The luxury liner is the latest to make a cruise call at the emirate’s east coast ports, which continue to attract cruise tourists from around the world.
MS Europa 2, managed by German company Hapag-Lloyd, is the winner of the coveted distinction of 5-stars-plus by the Berlitz Cruise Guide 2016.
On the occasion, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority organised traditional folk performances to welcome the cruise tourists on board MS Europa 2, and introduced them to Sharjah’s rich cultural and tourism offerings. The tourists were later taken on a tour around the city of Khorfakkan.
As part of its efforts to promote Sharjah as a leading cruise tourism destination, SCTDA is aiming to attract more than 28 cruise trips with 72,000 tourists to Khorfakkan Port during the current season.
The eastern region of Sharjah has been witnessing remarkable development in recent years, especially after the announcement of a package of tourism and recreational projects, most notably the recently launched Kalba eco-tourism project ‘Alhafia Park’. These projects are contributing to the overall growth of the tourism industry in the emirate and continuing to attract more tourists.
The government and private sector institutions in the cruise tourism sector are working together to provide enhanced facilities for tourists from all parts of the world to make Sharjah a prestigious cruise tourism destination.
