As much as $55.2bn worth of healthcare projects are in the pipeline in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in 2017, with major new developments expected to be announced at the forthcoming Building Healthcare Innovation & Design Show.
According to the latest industry estimates, a total of 37 mega hospital projects are already underway in the Gulf region, worth about $28.2bn and are expected to add 22,500 hospital beds to existing capacity (Alpen Capital Healthcare Report). The rest of the year will be even more robust for the healthcare projects market, with major projects being undertaken throughout the region.
In Saudi Arabia, some of the high-profile projects include King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz, Project For Development of Security Forces Medical Complexes; King Khaled Medical City, Dammam; King Faisal Medical City, Asir; Mouwasat Hospital, Al Khobar and Amal Mental Health Hospital, Taif; while in the UAE, the projects include Al Ain Hospital, Al Ain; Burjeel Medical City, Abu Dhabi; Gulf Medical University Hospital, Ajman; Mediclinic Parview Hospital, Dubai and King's College Hospital, Dubai.
The value of the healthcare market in Bahrain is projected reach $2.0 billion in 2020. Some of the high-profile hospital projects in the pipeline include King Abdullah Medical City, Durrat Al Bahrain; Mohammed Bin Khalifa Cardiac Hospital, Awali; Cancer Treatment Centre, King Hamad University Hospital, Muharraq and Muharraq Hospital Complex, Muharraq.
In Oman, the pipeline of hospital projects include Sultan Qaboos Medical City Complex, Barka; International Medical City, Salalah; Royal Oman Police Hospital, Muscat and Al Madina International Hospital, Muscat.
Kuwait’s hospital project pipeline includes 20 large-scale mega healthcare projects worth approximately $12bn which will add some 11,200 beds. Some of the projects underway are New Al Jahra Hospital, Al Jahra; SHBC Al Farwaniya Hospital Expansion, Kuwait City; Al Adnan Hospital Expansion, Kuwait; Sabah General Hospital Expansion, Al Sabah and Kuwait Cancer Control Centre Expansion, Kuwait City.
In Iran, the healthcare projects’ pipeline includes Ahvaz Super Hospital, Ahvaz; Shiraz University of Medical Sciences Hospital, Shiraz; New Shahid Rajaie Cardiovascular, Medical and Research Centre, Tehran; Mazandaran Hospital, Mahforujak and New Dr. Shariati Teaching Hospital, Tehran; while in Egypt, the projects include the New National Cancer Institute, Giza; The Global Hospital, Alexandria; Egyptian American Medical Centre, Giza and Children's Cancer Hospital Egypt 57357 Extension, Cairo.
The MENA region’s premier healthcare build and design show, organised by Informa Life Sciences Exhibitions, the world’s leading publishing and exhibitions company, Building Healthcare Innovation & Design Show will be co-located with Cityscape Global for the 2017 edition of the show which will take place from 11-13 September at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The decision to merge the two independently successful trade shows comes as an effort to create one unified business platform for the full spectrum of the construction, design and development industries in the region.
