Health and Tourism 2017 campaign continues its educational and awareness activities in Sharjah

The Health and Tourism 2017 campaign, launched in the middle of this month by the Health Education Department of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah. It will continue till mid-September in several touristic areas and malls under the theme of “Lets Walk”.

This year’s campaign aims to enhance the culture of walking and movement during the summer season in the community, highlight Sharjah's position in supporting and promoting the adoption of a healthy lifestyle among citizens and residents as well as highlighting the touristic areas in the Emirate.

The events that took place over the last few days, witnessed an active participation of five health support associations in the Supreme Council for Family Affairs: Friends For Diabetes, Friends of Arthritis Patients, Friends of Kidney Patients, Friends of  Cancer Patients and Breastfeeding Friends.

Iman Rashid, Director of Health Education Department, emphasized the importance of community participation in the campaign's fourth year programs and activities, which aims to highlight the role of walking in improving health, preventing disease and encouraging the public to take daily behavior.

The events that took place in Wasit Council and special Task Department Of Sharjah Police Headquarter, included free tests such as, osteoporosis, body mass index, blood sugar, breast cancer, blood pressure, dental, eye and skin examination offered by the Euro Arabian Hospital as well as health consultations provided by health and nutrition specialists.

Breastfeeding Friends association gave a lecture to women in the Special Tasks Department about the importance and benefits of breastfeeding and its role in protecting the health of children. Friends of Cancer Patients association also gave a lecture to the women and men in the Department on breast and prostate cancer awareness.

Col. Ashour Bin Sabt Bin Ashour, Director of Special Task Department, thanked The Department of Health Education and Health Associations for their efforts in raising awareness about various diseases in the community and encouraging people to practice a healthy lifestyle. Col. Ashour stated, this cooperation strengthens the participation of national institutions to build and protect the country.
