Dubai - MENA Herald: Fresh graduates of the College of Pharmacy at the Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman, will now get top priority for employment opportunities in the wide network of Thumbay Pharmacies and several other leading pharmaceutical brands.

Senior officials at the GMU announced that they have joined forces with leading pharmaceutical industries, and with the network of Thumbay Pharmacies while employing graduates from the esteemed University.

This collaboration between the University as well as the pharmaceutical companies ensures that GMU graduates will get first priority while securing jobs in various positions, across different segments, within the organisations. This initiative will also strengthen the relations between teaching practices at the University and industry standards.

“We are delighted that our pharmacy students will now be first in line for employment opportunities in various leading pharma industries. They will also gain excellent clinical exposure during the course. This, in turn, will make them more competent and prepared to take up various challenges in their professional careers,” stated Prof. Hossamm Chancellor of Gulf Medical University.

The College of Pharmacy at GMU provides a unique pharmacy program that prepares students for an exciting career in professional pharmacy. So far, graduate students from the GMU have made significant contributions to various healthcare organisations and have left their mark as accomplished and professional clinicians.

The College is the first in the UAE to adopt inter-professional education in its curriculum and has reflected positively on all health care team members, especially after graduation. The pharmacy programme is the only undergraduate Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) programme in UAE with a special focus on pharmacy practice and clinical pharmacy.

The programme has adopted the learning outcomes of the American Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education and has developed strong ties with several American universities for the purpose of joint initiatives in teaching practices, research, and student exchange.
Opportunities for internships in hospitals and other healthcare centres in the USA will work as a clear contribution, improving the quality of graduates. It is also expected to significantly enhance their employability in hospital environments in the UAE, where their expertise will be most needed.

Building the research skills of students is at the heart of the pharmacy programme at GMU. As they get prepared to improve pharmacy practice through high-quality research, GMU aims that such programmes will positively impact pharmacy professionals in UAE as well the whole region.
