Dubai hosts the 13th Global Scientific Dental Alliance Meeting

Dubai - MENA Herald: AEEDC Dubai Conference and Exhibition carries on for the second day at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre with a number of major activities that has witnessed the participation of dental students, dental specialists, industry leaders and professionals. AEEDC Exhibition has also witnessed a huge number of attendees who explored the latest medical devices, technologies and equipment displayed by prominent companies in the dental field from around the world, in an event that is considered the largest dental event in the region.

The second day of AEEDC Dubai conference involved a number of scientific activities including the 13th Global Scientific Dental Alliance Meeting, which gathered more than 80 representatives and directors of dental associations from more than 42 countries. The meeting was presided by Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani the Executive Chairman of AEEDC Dubai Conference and Exhibition and the GSDA, and Prof. Abdullah Al Shammery, Scientific Consultant of the Executive Board of Council for the Health Ministers of the GCC States and the Scientific Chairman Global Scientific Dental Alliance, and Dr. Nasser Al-Malik, Scientific Chairman of AEEDC Dubai and Dr. Tariq Khoory, Honorary Chairman of AEEDC Dubai.

Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani welcomed all the new and existing members whom are present this year and indicated that the scientific committee is keen on developing productive recommendations at the end of the meetings every year that adds value to the dental field. He said: “We are committed to introducing new and innovative dentistry courses in our agenda every year, and we are responsible to provide a unique and rich scientific program from the recommendations of this meeting. The GSDA meeting is now one of the very significant international dental forums in the world. Last year we have sent an invitation to all international dental organisations and associations and we have asked them to be part of the alliance, and

we were very pleased that many organizations showed their interest to join and this year, we have 11 new dental organizations and associations that have joined the alliance.”

From his side, Prof. Abdulla Al Shammery said: “The GSDA meeting is a very unique scientific meeting held annually at AEEDC Dubai Conference. This year we have organisations and representatives from 42 countries, which reflects the value of it. We aim through this meeting to develop and improve the scientific program for AEEDC Dubai and discuss the topics that shall be covered in the agenda of AEEDC Dubai conference next year. I would like to say also that we are very proud of the reputation of AEEDC Dubai globally and we hope that by 2020 it becomes number one in the world.”

“It’s our pleasure this year to host two new courses for the first time; “the AEEDC Dubai World Orthodontic Conference, and the AEEDC Dubai World Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Conference”. Those two courses are the outcome of last year’s meeting. Moreover, we have sent an invitation for the International Union for Preventing Decay to join us this year for a special course, in addition to lots of new programs that serve the continuous education field and the digital technology in dentistry.” Added Prof. Al Shammery

Prof. Tawfiq Al Khoja, Director General of the Executive Board, Health Ministers Council for GCC attended the GSDA 13th meeting also and praised the GSDA members’ efforts in making AEEDC one of the most pioneer events in the world.

On the sidelines of the AEEDC Dubai Conference and Exhibition, H.E. Saif bin Markhan Ketbi, Director-General of the Office of His Highness the Crown Prince of Dubai, offered an honorary shield to Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani, Chairman of INDEX Holding, as a token of appreciation for the support provided by INDEX for the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed’s Oral Hygiene Initiative for basic workers category which was announced during the conference.

The 2nd day of AEEDC Dubai has also witnessed a new collaborative initiative part of AEEDC Conference which is the Alliance for Cavity-Free Future Annual Global Symposium (ACFF) that was entitled ‘Joining up the Evidence to make an achievable difference’ hosted by ACFF Chairman Professor Nigel Pitts.

“This year’s Symposium marks the first of what we hope will become an annual series of events hosted by the ACFF and AEEDC, drawing together research and guidance from across the globe with the aim of opening dialogues around caries prevention and establishing much needed links between the health disciplines and practitioner groups in the global battle against tooth decay.” said Professor Pitts.

Professor Pitts continued on saying: “Dental caries is the most prevalent chronic disease in the world, yet it is largely preventable. This is an exciting and much needed opportunity to bring together the wealth of evidence and expertise from across different disciplines. Dental specialists in all fields will benefit from the fast paced presentations and discussions from the carefully selected expert panel of speakers, which promises to be insightful and eye opening, as they weave together the approaches of their disciplines, and together we can integrate the evidence to stop caries more effectively, with the ultimate aim of achieving a Cavity-Free Future.”

AEEDC Dubai 2016 has also featured the 7th AEEDC Student Competition which aims to bring out the best in the next generation by involving students in educational intellectual competitions and giving them incentives to improve their skills and develop their knowledge further. AEEDC Student Competition provides a unique opportunity to all dental students who are in their last academic year to compete with their peers from various dental colleges and universities through individual and group competitions.

This year, the 7th AEEDC Student Competition witnesses the participation of 30 students from Ajman University of Science and Technology, Alfarabi College, Faculty of Dentistry and Nursing, Ibn Sina National College, Oman Dental College, RAK College of Dental Sciences, and University of Sharjah.

Commenting on AEEDC student competition, Dr. Mohammed Abedin, AEEDC Scientific Vice Chairman said: “This activity is directed towards the youngsters’ sense of competition, by this we are trying to encourage them to attend, concentrate and learn both from their peers and from their senior colleagues present. Just like every year, AEEDC Student Competition carries the spirit of knowledge and improvement through competition to the next level.”

The UAE International Dental Conference and Arab Dental Exhibition (AEEDC Dubai 2016) will continue until 4th of February and is organized by INDEX Conferences and Exhibitions a member of INDEX Holding. AEEDC Dubai works closely also with a number of strategic partnerships, such as the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai. The event is officially supported by the Global Scientific Dental Alliance, the Arab Dental Federation, Executive Board of the Health Ministers Council for Gulf Cooperation Council States, GCC Oral Health Committee, Riyadh Colleges of Dentistry and Pharmacy, Arab Academy for Continuing Dental Education, and International Association for Orthodontics-IAO.
