Dubai - MENA Herald: Aster DM Foundation and du, the Middle East’s fastest growing telecommunications service providers, today announced signing of a strategic memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up a home monitoring system for their diabetic and hypertension patients to easily keep track of their own glucose and blood pressure levels called Aster – My Health.
The commercial agreement allows Aster DM access to du’s novel technology which will enable patients to monitor and track their daily glucose and blood pressure levels, and for doctors to receive this information instantaneously and remotely. Once commercially rolled out, the du platform will enable customers to track their health information which will be sent to Aster’s facilities. This enables both doctors and patients remotely monitor and track vital readings and ease the burden on managing the information.
As du’s services extend throughout the UAE, this home monitoring system will benefit everyone, even those with hectic schedules or who usually need to travel long distances to visit Aster facilities. A joint team consisting of doctors, nurses and customer service executives will be formed specifically for this purpose. Aster will be identifying selected patients from its existing base, who are suffering from these conditions to provide this service in the initial phase. Their progress will be monitored on a daily basis and regular updates will be provided to the patients. Following the first launch phase the service will then be extended as an offering to more patients.

The International Diabetes Federation currently lists the Emirates as tenth in terms of prevalence and estimates the nation will be third by 2030. More than half of the nation’s youth are clinically obese and said to be in danger of developing type 2 diabetes. Diabetes affects 19% of the UAE population, according to the International Diabetes Federation* and 40.8% of UAE adults are suffered by hypertension, and requires frequent monitoring, exercise and often maintaining a strict diet.
