UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science Delegation Visits Leading Research Centers and Institutions in Italy

Abu Dhabi - MENA Herald: A high-level delegation from the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science has visited Bologna and Trieste in Italy as part of a two-week long European research cooperation roadshow to promote the country’s path-breaking program to step-up research efforts in rain enhancement. As part of the visit, the delegates conducted meetings with eminent Italian scientists and researchers to foster international research cooperation in the niche field.
The delegation, comprising Mohamed Al Mheiri, Head of Media and Marketing Services, and Sufian Farrah, Senior Forecaster at Abu Dhabi’s National Center of Meteorology & Seismology (NCMS), met with researchers from influential climatology research groups of the National Research Council and from the University of Bologna, the oldest University in the world.
The delegates exchanged innovative ideas on cloud seeding with the Italian scientists and researchers, and discussed ways of deepening international collaboration in one of the most promising fields of atmospheric research. The visit also presented an opportunity to demonstrate to Italians researchers the new avenues of collaboration offered by the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science that has been designed to advance the science, technology, and implementation of cloud seeding and spur additional investments in research funding and international partnerships.
Mohamed Al Mheiri, said: “Our visit to Italy and our participation in the annual meeting of the European Meteorological Society (EMS) enabled us to reach out to leading research institutions and experts that are engaged in conducting first-class research on atmospheric processes. We believe that Italy is a country that is at the forefront of scientific research, and we are committed to building stronger bonds with its scientists and technologists. We expect to receive many more innovative research projects from researchers in this part of the world for the next cycle of the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science.”
"Our Institute today has proven skills in precipitations studies, satellite/radar and numerical analysis as well as algorithm development. We are currently working on synergies to improve our understanding of precipitation anomalies in a changing climate and to develop innovative tools to study in-cloud precipitation formation processes. In this context, this meeting with a prominent UAE institution is highly beneficial, as we believe collaborative projects are always the best way to transfer knowledge and produce high-quality scientific results and applications", said Cristina Sabbioni, Director of the Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate of the National Research Council.
Following the meetings in Bologna, the delegation participated in the 16th European Meteorological Society Annual Meeting and the 11th European Conference on Applied Climatology (ECAC) in Trieste. At the event, the UAE delegation discussed meteorological monitoring, forecasting and modelling, and provided extensive information on the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science.
