Dubai Customs celebrated its leading customs female employees in Al Thuraya Award ceremony held at the Queen Elizabeth 2 Hotel.

Director of Dubai Customs Ahmed Mahboob Musabih said women are an integral part of any progress and development in society.

“Empowerment of women has been one of the main strategies in the UAE since the time of the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, May Allah bless his soul.

The event took place in the presence of Raja Al Gurg, president of Dubai Business Women Council and a leading businesswoman in her right, alongside a host of senior executives, heads of departments, female community leaders and members of ladies committees in government entities.

Musabih thanked all who contributed to and supported the success of Al Thuraya Award.

Al Thuraya Award was launched in January 2019 and over 3 months it received 77 entries from Dubai Customs female employees, out of which 20 won under different categories.

“Dubai Customs supported women at work with all different means and encourage them to innovate in line with the wise vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. Al Thuraya Award is an initiative that helps boost female employees’ performance, especially we have 744 female employees out of 3,000 in Dubai Customs who work in tandem with the male employees towards the continual success of Dubai Customs.”

Musabih awarded the winners under categories including Distinguished Leading Woman, Distinguished Female Administrator, Distinguished Customs Woman, among others.

Ahmed Abdul Salam Kazim, Director of Strategy and Corporate Excellence at Dubai Customs said women receive support from the UAE leaders.

“Our wise leadership is continuing this approach to empowering women, which was established by our Founding Father, the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who was a strong supporter of women and who encouraged them to play a role in the nation’s development.”

On her part, Mariam Khalifa Al-Shamsi, Head of the Ladies Committee at Dubai Customs said:

“One of the initiatives that helped our female employees strike that balance between work and life is the launch of the daycare center and nursery in 2009. It helped the mother employees work with a better feeling knowing that their children are very close to them.”
