The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted a workshop on Tuesday at its premises to highlight legal aspects and challenges associated with managing employee relations, as well as practical steps companies can take to address such issues.
The workshop, organised in cooperation with Clyde & Co LLP, was attended by members of Dubai Chamber, legal and human resources professionals, managers, business owners, and contract specialists.
Participants were informed about best practices for changing the terms and conditions of employment, in addition to the process for handling disciplinary issues, dismissal, and the transfer of employees within organisations.
The event was moderated by Rebecca Ford, Partner, Employment Clyde & Co LLP, Ben Brown, Legal Director, Employment Clyde & Co LLP, and Sarit Thomas, Professional Support Lawyer Clyde & Co LLP.
Jehad Kazim, Director of Legal Services at Dubai Chamber, said that the UAE labour market is maturing as the economy grows, and explained that companies need to be informed about the correct process to follow in the event of disciplinary issues or dismissal.
Kazim noted that these types of interactive workshops are crucial as they raise awareness on important legal issues and encourage companies to adopt best practices.
During the event, Ford highlighted the best procedures and practices to be followed when carrying out a disciplinary process, and provided real life examples of the most common mistakes made by employers.
"We are increasingly seeking clients that undertake reorganisations within their business, or seek to standardise terms across a group. We are commonly asked to advise clients on employee misconduct issues and how best to manage a disciplinary process,” Ford added.
Dubai Chamber regularly organises workshops and seminars that cover a wide range of legal issues impacting the business community. These events aim to raise awareness and keep business owners and professionals informed about important regulatory developments.
