Limak Construction collaborates with Kuwait University to empower female engineering students in Kuwait

Kuwait - MENA Herald: Limak Construction, one of world's leading contractors, signed an agreement to establish Limak’s ‘Kuwait’s Engineer Girls Program’ in collaboration with Kuwait University and Turkey’s Boğaziçi University. The program is an internship and training program for Gulf female students enrolled in their senior year at Kuwait University’s College of Engineering and Petroleum.

The project-based learning program will train 30 undergraduate seniors over the course of the Fall 2017 semester and consist of 200 training hours divided into seven modules. Upon completion of the program successful participants will receive a Business Technology Education Council (BTEC) Management and Leadership certificate recognized in over 100 countries worldwide and 3 Semester Credit Hours from Kuwait University. The program aims to empower students’ leadership and management skills and help them envision their future careers in engineering.

Following the program, honorary students will be invited to witness and learn from Limak’s state-of-the-art infrastructure projects worldwide including the world’s largest airport in terms of passenger capacity, Turkey’s Istanbul New Airport, as Limak is one of the five partners contracted to construct the airport. Selected graduates will also be given the opportunity to continue to work on the Kuwait International Airport New Terminal II project as they will be invited to apply for internships and employment at Limak Kuwait.

The educational agreement was signed on February 2, 2017 by Limak Insaat Board Member and Limak Investments Chairperson Mrs. Ebru Özdemir and the Dean of the College of Engineering and Petroleum at Kuwait University Professor Abdullateef Al-Khulaifi, and is the first in a series of initiatives planned under Limak Construction and Kuwait University’s Memorandum of Understanding signed on May 8, 2017.

Limak Construction, which is currently constructing Kuwait’s new airport terminal and leading projects in Kuwait, is a strong and long-term advocate of the advancement of women in the engineering and construction sector in the Middle East. The Kuwait program is modelled after a successful program launched by Limak in Turkey in 2015.

“Holding onto our promise made during Kuwait University’s Golden Jubilee celebration in 2016 we are excited to announce our partnership with Kuwait University and Turkey’s Boğaziçi University for the establishment of the ‘Kuwait’s Engineer Girls Program’. This is first of many education-based initiatives we have planned over the next several years.” said Mr. Richard Meredith, Limak Construction’s Project Director for the Kuwait International Airport New Terminal II project.

Limak’s support for female engineers in Kuwait is part of the company’s greater regional efforts to add permanent value to Kuwait’s society by supporting education and learning opportunities in the fields of construction, engineering, architecture, and project management. The ‘Kuwait’s Engineer Girls Program’ stems from Limak and Kuwait University’s General Cooperation agreement signed on May 8, 2017.
