More than 85 principals from across Dubai’s private schools came together to generate 1000 ideas to celebrate the Year of Giving at their schools and welcome the new academic year.
During the event, the principals worked in groups to talk about what giving means to them, and how it would be expressed at their schools. Themes included ‘Giving to the UAE’, ‘Giving to Teachers’, ‘Giving to Students’, ‘Giving to the Environment’ and ‘Giving to People with Determination.’
Dr. Abdulla Al Karam, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) said, “The Year of Giving isn’t about what we would like to do, it’s about who we would like to be. Schools in Dubai are already part of a community that has giving and happiness at its heart. This coming academic year, we’ll continue working with principals, teachers, parents and students on initiatives that bring us closer together and ensure that the spirit of Year of Giving endures long after the year has ended.”
Naveed Iqbal, Principal of International School of Creative Science, Nad Al Sheba said, “It’s always exciting to welcome students back to school and see their wonderful smiling faces. This giving initiative is an important reminder to give back our skills, time and ideas. It allows us to take a break from our routine and step back to reflect and be purposeful.”
Sasha Crabb, Principal of Victory Heights Primary School said, “There are so many great ideas that all schools in Dubai can share together and get involved in community projects. It’s about giving opportunities to students where they can share their time and finding a purpose.”
