Dubai - MENA Herald: A key player in the development of the country’s youth, du has extended the originally planned scope of scholarships to empower 22 students, instead of the originally planned 20, through its collaboration with American University in Dubai (AUD) this year.

Of the 35 students that applied for the scholarship, 59% of the chosen 22 are girls. Selected students will be able to pursue studies in Communication & Information Studies, Electrical/Civil and Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, Visual Communication and Business Administration with the coveted scholarships. The scholarship provides great opportunities to motivate nationals to continue their higher studies and empowers them by providing the tools and skills that will enable them to enter the Emirati workforce.

“Our partnership with AUD is one of the many initiatives that du is undertaking to empower the leaders of tomorrow with skills and then opportunities to progress in life. This scholarship offers Emiratis a workplace advantage by refining their career path, knowledge and skills and we are proud to support the UAE’s vision of a knowledge-based society through such initiatives,” said Ibrahim Nassir, Chief Human Capital and Administration Officer, du.

“Overwhelmed with the sheer talent of the applicants and the turnout, we had no choice but to extend the scope of the scholarship this year. Following the directives of our leadership for more collaboration between industries and private-public partnerships, we will continue to align with education, and other institutions to propel innovation in the UAE. Once again we are setting the benchmarks and we hope to inspire entities throughout the UAE to take a similar approach,” he added.

The selected students joined the Fall semester this year. High performing students may be eligible to join du’s Masar Graduate Trainee Programme, if they are interested in starting a rewarding career with the region’s fastest-growing telecommunications company. During their time with du as a Graduate Trainee (GT) they will receive coaching, a Personal Development Plan, and training to allow them to progress within the company, amongst other benefits. Around 45 students have been enrolled in du AUD scholarship’s program since its launch in from du employees and other applicants.

In addition to the AUD scholarship programme, du also offers students in various stages of their studies with sponsorship, internship and graduate trainee programmes. In addition, du attends a number of career fairs and career days to offer UAE Nationals gainful employment following their studies.
