Muscat - MENA Herald:

A’soud Global School (AGS), part of Al Najah Education’s growing portfolio of educational assets, has announced the appointment of Darren Lyon to its senior management team. From September 2018, Mr. Lyon assumes the role of Headmaster at AGS, a premium school offering international education based on proven British teaching methods, in the heart of Oman.

With an overall experience of over 20 years, Mr Lyon has worked as a teacher and headmaster at various schools in the UK and has also led school improvement work across schools in Spain and Hong Kong. His most recent experience includes six years at Sir Thomas Fremantle School in Buckinghamshire, where he led the institution to grow from 80 to 600 students in the span of five years. It is now one of the most popular and academically successful schools in the area.

Bringing a wealth of knowledge and education managerial experience to his role, Lyon says: “I am delighted to be joining as Headmaster of A’soud Global School as we welcome in the new academic year. I look forward to embracing the challenge brought about by a new teaching environment, and along with the highly skilled and motivated staff and management team, I am confident we can take A’soud Global School forward to new heights.”

Schools that have operated under Mr Lyon’s guidance have been recognised for highly aspirational leadership and high quality teacher training and development. Mr Lyon is a strong supporter of the ‘House’ system, which provided students with a healthy level of competition and camaraderie and has introduced this at three separate schools.

In addition to his experience as a senior school leader, Mr Lyon has held a number of managerial roles with responsibility for finance, curriculum design, timetabling as well as oversight design and construction of upcoming schooling sites.

With a solid background in software and design, Mr Lyon also understands the inherent need to embed cutting edge technology into the educational process – something that he is eager to implement at A’soud Global School. He is set to reinvigorate the lessons and curriculum by introducing key educational techniques and practices that have proven to be of great benefit to the students in his previous schools.

Mr Lyon says, “In some of my previous work, we incorporated the use of iPads into daily lessons, as well as offered GCSE and post-16 courses in 3D Design and Manufacture, which have all shown a tremendous benefit to students. The prospect of building on A’soud Global School’s already-impeccable learning opportunities for students is one that I will strive to fulfil.”

Looking ahead to the coming months, he comments, “I am proud to call A’soud Global School my new home, and look forward to developing it into a centre of excellence – both for teaching and learning.”
