Dubai - MENA Herald:

The dynamic Ford Tourneo Custom offers users a more stylish and car-like people mover with class-leading comfort and best-in-class safety offerings.

A streamlined appearance, car-like interior design and driving dynamics, and outstanding fuel economy, ensures the Ford Tourneo Custom is the perfect vehicle for tour operators and executive shuttle customers.

Perfect dimensions

Available in nine seat configuration, Tourneo Custom offers a choice of a 2,933 mm short wheelbase version (SWB – 4.9 metres overall length), and a 3,300 mm long wheelbase (LWB – 5.3 metres overall length), both of which provide generous space for people and luggage. The additional length of the LWB version translates into extra luggage space behind the third row of seats.

At a height of just two metres, the Tourneo Custom also comfortably complies with most car park height limits. This advantage is retained when the vehicle is fitted with the innovative deployable integrated roof rack system, which is seamlessly integrated into the roof, and can easily be raised or lowered when required.

Tourneo Custom models offer dual side sliding doors as standard, with running boards below the doors for improved low level step access, as well as a strong visual differentiation. A liftgate is fitted as standard at the rear.

Versatile car-like interior

The Tourneo Custom also brings car-like style and sophistication to the people-mover segment with an all-new interior constructed with high quality materials. The stylish, sculpted driver-focused instrument panel features technologies closely-related to those found in the Ford car range. The cockpit is further enhanced by a highly adjustable driving position with the steering column adjustable for reach and rake.

The Tourneo Custom comes fitted with SYNC, Ford’s in-car, fully-integrated entertainment and communications system that allows drivers to control Bluetooth enabled devices with steering wheel audio controls.

The seats in the two rear seating rows can be easily folded into multiple configurations and removed in segments or completely – in total there are over 30 seating permutations to suit any occasion.

Rear passengers enjoy a spacious environment and a comfortable, fully-trimmed cabin. The Tourneo boasts class-leading legroom and a higher seating position than its rivals – giving passengers a more comfortable ride and a superior view.

The Tourneo’s ventilation and air-conditioning systems offer much improved airflow and performance, with a separate air conditioning unit for the rear compartment. There are 20 air vents to maximise airflow throughout the vehicle, right from the dashboard to the third row. Integral side window blinds are also included, for extra comfort.

Outstanding driving dynamics and refinement

The Tourneo Custom brings a new level of car-like driver appeal to its segment, with dynamics and performance which have been carefully tuned to reflect the same natural and easy-to-drive character which customers appreciate on Ford’s car range.

Ford Engineers have meticulously tuned the suspension and steering to deliver precise steering and agile handling.  This combined with a comprehensive effort to eliminate unwanted noise and vibrations has resulted in a quiet and comfortable environment for both driver and passengers.

The Tourneo Custom is the only vehicle in its class to combine the latest Electronic Stability and Rollover Movement Intervention technology to enhance stability and help keep the vehicle upright during emergency evasive maneuvers.  Sensors within the vehicle detect instability occurring and actively reduce torque to the driven wheels to help stabilise the vehicle and keep the vehicle upright.

The Tourneo is also the only vehicle in its class to feature Hill Hold Assist. Sensors detect when the car is stopped on a slope, and will momentarily prevent the car from rolling away once the brake pedal is released, giving the driver time to move their foot from the brake to the accelerator.

Maximised occupant protection

To maximise occupant protection the Tourneo Custom features a percentage of high strength and ultra-high strength (Boron) steels that result in a strong and light body designed to provide high levels of crash protection.

The Tourneo also features an enhanced restraint system which provides curtain airbags as standard for the front seat occupants, together with driver and passenger airbags and seat-mounted side thorax airbags. There are six airbags in total, and all seats have three-point seatbelts all fitted with pretensioners and load limiters. Tourneo also offers three ISO child seat fixings which makes it the safest people-mover in the market. As on Ford’s passenger cars, a non-axial stroking steering column is also now fitted, to help reduce loads on the occupant’s head and chest in the event of a high speed frontal impact.

The Tourneo Custom is also the first vehicle in its class to have been developed considering the latest Euro NCAP Protocol for pedestrian protection, which sets tough standards for the assessment of pedestrian safety for heavy vehicles. It was awarded a maximum 5-star NCAP rating for occupant and pedestrian safety, making it the safest vehicle in its class.

Exceptional fuel economy

The powertrain is an improved version of Ford’s latest 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi turbo diesel engine which combines outstanding performance and refinement with exceptional fuel efficiency.

The Tourneo Custom is available in the Middle East with two power ratings: 100 PS and 125 PS. Featuring a six-speed manual transmission the powertrain delivers class-leading fuel consumption of 15 km/litre.* At 310 Nm and 350 Nm, the Tourneo Custom’s engine also produces class-leading torque figures in either engine configuration.

The engine has been further optimised to improve fuel economy, driveability and emissions. The engine calibration has been programmed to suit the unique characteristics of the vehicle, minimising fuel consumption and enhancing torque output and responsiveness. That leads to incredible gains in productivity over the Tourneo’s rivals.

“A more fuel efficient engine combined with its 80 Liter fuel tank means that the Tourneo has an extended range over the competition resulting in fewer fuel stops, handing owners back valuable time that would otherwise be spent queueing for fuel,” said Terry Rayner, director of Commercial Vehicles at Ford MEA. “Calculated over the life of the vehicle, that could amount to as much as a full eight-hour working day per year that Ford Tourneo owners gain from not having to stop and fill up so often as their rivals.”

The Tourneo Custom has been engineered to deliver outstanding functionality, durability and low cost of ownership.

“Put simply, the Transit Tourneo is an outstanding vehicle that leads the sector by quite a margin in every regard,” Rayner continued. “It combines car-like levels of performance, comfort and specification with enhanced practicality and reduced running costs. This stylish vehicle with genuine ability will enhance Ford’s reputation for long-term durability and value.”
